I guess it’s time for me to post something about pub grub again. And I’m gonna start with one of my favourite, which is at Online SS4. As you may already know, pub grub refers to food served at pubs and bars, which may include snacks, appetizers and comfort food. Local pub grub may include dishes which are spicy as the typical local Malaysian loves spicy food. So without further ado, here are my picks for pub grub at Online SS4. (original visit was on 24th January 2014!)
Online SS4 is a neighbourhood pub located at Jalan SS4/17. This is actually their second outlet; the first Online pub is at Damansara Kim, which has been operating for 25 years. Well you can say that Online pub is quite a household name among pub goers in Klang Valley.
Upon entering the pub, you will notice a large pic of an old steam train. This pic was taken during Christmas in 2013.
Spacious, cosy interiors and comfy chairs. Perfect for a neighbourhood pub. Not forgetting the friendly owner/manager Bala (a good friend) and the staffs too.
This is the ‘holy grail’ dish at Online SS4… Spicy Wild Boar! Locals, including myself love wild boar curry. I’d always be on a lookout for a great curry dish (especially wild boar!). This dry curry dish is awesome. Goes very well with a pint of Guinness! 8.5/10
Another famous pub grub at Online SS4 is the Peppered Mutton. I am not a big fan of dishes with lots of pepper and prefer curry instead. Nevertheless, this dish is good. 7/10
Still hungry?? Not to worry coz Online SS4 serves Hokkien Mee too! IMHO, this is one of the best I’ve tasted around the Petaling Jaya area. Your taste buds may differ, so you gotta come check out for yourselves. The noodles were very well fried and braised, with good amount of fried pork lard. The ‘sambal belacan’ chilli is nice, not too spicy or salty. 9/10.
You may be wondering… who is the chef who whipped up that awesome Hokkien Mee?? Yes folks, this is chef Mala, posing here with her signature noodle dish. She is the one behind the kitchen and has been with Online Pub for many years. Her other signature dish is the Spicy Fried Mee Hoon (rice vermicelli), which I am looking forward to try.
All the nice food and cool pub environment will not be perfect if we don’t share ’em with great company. I actually went there with two good buddies, Marcus Lum (L) and Prashan Chitty a.k.a. Melakaboy (R). Due to our different work commitment and lifestyle, it was very rare that we can get together for food and drinks. Glad to be able share this mini food review with these guys and looking forward to more makan makan with them! 🙂
